Grade II* listed Country House in Dorset

We were asked to supply and install two of our reclaimed floors in this, idyllic country house.

On the 1st floor landing, we removed the existing floorboards and replaced these with reclaimed Pine floorboards laid onto existing joists. The Pine was supplied in regular widths and fixed using cut-head nails. Finishing entailed hand sanding the original surface of the floorboard and then applying several coats of wax and buffing. This left an authentic, pine floor that seamlessly leads you off to adjoining bedrooms and occasional rooms.

The drawing room on the ground floor was laid using our 18th Century Country Oak floorboards. Given the age of the building and with no DPC in place, we worked alongside the main contractor; first sealing the original floor and then installing a plywood sub-floor in order the give the reclaimed Oak both something fix to but also to act as a barrier against damp from below. The floorboards were hand-sanded and had several coats of wax applied, leaving a warm, inviting room ideal for cold winter nights in front of the open fire. Visitors to the house regularly comment about the floor, imagining it being laid in the house for many years believing that it is original to the house.
